New River Outdoor Adventures
New River Outdoor Adventures is located in Fries VA and is your one-stop-shop for all your outdoor recreational needs! Enjoy our scenic floats down the beautiful New River from canoe, kayak, tandem kayak, or river tube. River floats rage from beginner, for the family or first-time boater to experienced, for the thrill-seeker.
Do you enjoy biking? We provide great trail bikes for rent and cover all 57 miles of the New River Trail. Shuttle service is provided for boats and bikes as well. he NROA shop also has lots of items for sale to help make your adventure an enjoyable experience.
We are also a point of sale for Virginia hunting and fishing license’s so basically you can get everything you need here, with us! We also have New River Outdoor Adventure gear for sale so you can let your friends and family know just how you loved your adventure with us.
New River Trail
In the southwestern corner of Virginia lies the premier New River Trail State Park, a 57-mile linear park between Galax and Pulaski and National Recreation Trail. The accolade this state park receives is well deserved. For 39 spectacular miles, the trail parallels its namesake, the New River, considered among the oldest rivers in the world. The New River Trail also follows the abandoned corridor of the Norfolk Southern Railroad, so some history and adventure are added to the mix, and the result is a well-maintained scenic trail highlighting two tunnels, dozens of bridges and trestles and a historical shot tower once used to make ammunition.

The rail trail is enjoyed by hikers, kayakers, anglers, horseback riders, campers and bikers, so be prepared to share—including swerving around occasional horse manure and rough patches. Also, slow down and announce your presence when encountering equestrians. You’ll find toilets, picnic tables, benches along the route. The trail is quite remote, however, so carry enough water and snacks for the entire trip, as well as all necessary supplies in case of an emergency or quick bike repair. The tunnels aren’t particularly long (less than 200 feet), but a headlamp might be useful. Virginia State Parks provides a downloadable trail guide and map.
We are located half a mile from the New River and New River Trail for those up to the hike on our adventure trail. Easier access points can be reached with just a short 15–20-minute drive.

Culture
Virginia’s music scene boasts a variety of different genres such as bluegrass, country, gospel, R&B, rock and roll, jazz, folk, and more. Begun in 1935, the Fiddlers’ Convention is held every August at Felts park in Galax, Virginia, in the heart of mountain music country and the very place were country music got its start. There are also numerous Fiddler and Blue Grass shows throughout the spring, summer and fall months in the area.
